Johanna teaches chemistry and science skills ( 1st year) at the University of the Free State , Free State Province, South Africa since 2011. She is a graduate of the University of Stellenbosch (BSc Hons) and the University of the Free State (MSc and HOD ) . In 2013 she obtained economics ; micro and macro on 2nd year level for the UFS. She has taught mathematics (Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry and pre-calculus (10-12th grade), Physics and Chemistry (10-12th grade) from 1975 up to 1999 when she was appointed as subject advisor and in 2004 as provincial subject coordinator for science in the Department of Education of the Free State. She has extensive experience working with in service teachers to develop and implement curriculum for students in mathematics, science, design and technology as well as multi grade classes.

In 2013, she was a participant of the CEE's Training of Writers program for the development of lessons for a new resource, Math in the Real World.
